Is Mamata Banerjee overpowered by the ghost of Hitler?

The worst assault and rape of democracy is when the power and freedom of expression is snatched. Recently, Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee has been in the firing line of critics for her uncontrolled reactions towards criticism, as well as, unusually ‘communist’ diktats. However, it seems that Mamata is unfazed by all these and has now approached the West Bengal CID to ask Facebook to delete anti-Mamata content and groups.

News published by Zee News reads, and I quote, “According to reports, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal has written to Facebook authorities in the US to remove “malicious web contents” against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy. There are four pictures reportedly shown and Roy in a poor light.

The CID said that they are trying to locate the IP address of the computer from which the pictures were posted.”

She has been facing the wrath of freedom of speech activists ever since she had lodged a complaint and booked a professor for allegedly outraging her modesty (Don’t ask us how!). Recently, an online-exhibition on cartoons making her mockery was conducted by keralacartoonacademy.com, and it received good support. In fact, on the India-specific blog, India Ink (New York Times) had a brilliant piece of blog on the same.

The blog starts by saying, “Aamra ekhon-o boli ni kon kagoj porte hobe, kintu agami dine kintu setao bole debo. (Till now, we haven’t told which newspapers must be read, but in the future, we will do that as well.) – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, speaking on March 29 in defense of her government’s decision to bar all but 13 newspapers from more than 2,400 government-approved libraries across the state.” You can read the blog at

From taking the power of the CPM to Didi-hooliganism, is THIS what the West Bengal franchise had opted for? While the central governments have had stern stands on paid news or even the Lokpal movement from the India Against Corruption, we wonder why none of the parliamentarians have the courage to comment when it comes to Didi (Mamata) or Bhehenji (Mayawati)?
